Date of the magazine

In 1953, Badih Serbey published the first issue of “Al-Mawed” and was considered the founder of a pioneering school in artistic journalism. “Al-Mawed” was initially a bi-monthly magazine, but soon became a weekly magazine at the request of the “Star of the East”, the artist Umm Kulthum.

"Al-Mawed" is a Lebanese magazine published in Beirut by "Dar Al-Badi' for Authorship and Publishing".

Over the course of forty years, from 1953 until his death in 1994, Badih Serbey was able to continue publishing “Al-Mawed” on a permanent and regular basis, despite the many difficulties that confronted the progress of “Dar Al-Badi’” during the years of the Lebanese war, as its printing presses and offices were destroyed and burned more than once.

During its long journalistic journey, Al-Mawed was able to achieve wide circulation and a place of love in the hearts of millions of audiences in various Arab capitals due to the many distinguished journalistic achievements by Badih Serbey and his commitment to the approach of honest news and the word that criticizes without hurting.

Badih Serbey always believed that artistic journalism was not a show of extravagance, but rather a means of bringing innocent entertainment to the masses that fills their souls with optimism. Since its launch, Al-Mawed has embraced young Arab talents and launched a group of stars who are now well-known in the Arab world, and has adhered to Badih Serbey’s principles of keeping pace with the Arab cultural artistic movement with honesty, objectivity, and clean words.
