Hugh Grant tells Al-Mawed: I started my career by transporting vegetables in the streets of London
· “I built a house in Sweden and I can only live in it for one month.”
For two years I did not read magazines, but I returned to reading everything written about me and that was bad for me.
I am busy with my work, politics and having children.
I love car racing.
Hugh Grant, the famous British actor known for his romantic roles, is currently moving between his country, England, and Hollywood, where we met him and where his latest film, “ Florence Foster Jenkind ,” is being shown. The story revolves around the life of a very wealthy woman who loved singing. Thanks to her wealth, she was able to sing at Carnegie Hall, even though her voice was very poor. The role of this character was played by the star actress Meryl Streep .
He arrived at the hall where he answered our questions wearing a white shirt and looking much younger than his age, as he is 56 years old, but he looks younger than that, especially on screen (although in his last film he played an older person with great success).
He simply chatted with me and talked to me about his life and how he started acting and said:
“I started my career transporting vegetables in the streets of London. Although I did not hate this work, I loved songs. From here, I turned to art and acting, which brings me a greater income than transporting vegetables in the streets of London” (smiling).
Hugh Grant is known for his frequent news about his personal life. Years ago, the police caught him trying to bargain with a prostitute on the streets of Hollywood. This incident caused a huge uproar and was the talk of Hollywood at the time, but it did not affect his artistic work. Over time, his fans forgot about this issue.
As for his personal life, he is the father of a child from a girl who works in a restaurant in London and is of Chinese origin. His daughter's name is ( Xiao Xo ), which means "happy surprise" in Chinese. Then he became the father of a child from a Swedish mother. After that, he had another child from the Chinese girl, the mother of his first daughter. Then he had another child from his Swedish girlfriend - this is his strange life - but it appears that all these events in his life did not affect his artistic life or the audience's interest in watching his films.
When asked about his life full of romantic adventures and other things and the effect of all that on him, he replied that at one point he asked everyone around him not to show him any newspaper or magazine because he tried to distance himself from the world of talk and conversations. This continued for two years and he was happy about that, but he returned to read what was written about him because he liked to annoy himself with everything bad that was written about him.
Knowing that he is the father of two children from a Swedish mother, I asked him about his connection to Sweden. He said that he is building a house in Sweden, but only for the summer, as Sweden is only habitable for one month in the summer. I told him that you are building a house in Sweden to live in it for one month a year. He said: Yes.
I asked him what motivated him to go to the cinema to watch films... He said that he had been busy recently with other work, the first of which was his artistic work, and also his ongoing work in English politics, as he was now busy with England's internal politics and its exit from Europe, which he believed would not last long. Then he said: "I was also busy having children every Thursday" (this is exactly how he expressed it in English). So if I had time left, I would think about going to the cinema.
I asked him if he had a hobby, and he said: “Yes, I love car racing. I participated in a car race in Sweden and it was wonderful. I also loved the uniform I was wearing, and I like the sound of the motors in the cars during the race. I love and adore that.”
