Angelina Jolie: I disagree with my husband like every couple, but in the end we agree so that life goes on and we avoid obstacles

  • I urge all women at risk of breast cancer to undergo surgery
  • I managed to be a director and my husband an actor in the same movie
  • I used to laugh when Brad Pitt spoke French
  • The issue in Syria must be resolved, as well as what is happening between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
  • This is why we filmed in Malta instead of France
  • Brad Pitt and I decided to get married because it was better for our children to have an official father and mother.
She came completely elegant, unlike many of the actors you meet who wear very ordinary clothes, sometimes even inappropriate clothes, unlike Angelina, who is elegant, outspoken and has opinions on politics and society, which she expresses without hesitation or effort. She is an ambassador for the United Nations and defends the poor all over the world, especially in African countries and Southeast Asia.

• I asked her why she decided to get married officially with Brad Pitt after years of their relationship, and she said:

- This decision came after we found that it was more appropriate for all of our children to have an official father and mother in official papers from a social, official and economic perspective (and it is known, of course, that she has six children - three of them from her current husband Brad Pitt and three others she adopted who are from different countries and different races, the eldest of them is from Cambodia, the second from Ethiopia and the third from Vietnam). She continued saying: This is all for the benefit of our children to have an official father and mother.

• I also asked her about her decision to have a mastectomy to avoid cancer. She appeared in her last film, which she wrote and directed, in which she played the lead role with her husband Brad Pitt, and she appeared with her upper half naked.

She said: This film was filmed before the operation, but she calls on all women who are exposed to this hateful disease to undergo this operation. Her mother died of cancer and her grandmother also died of this damned disease, so she decided to avoid this danger by removing her breasts according to the doctors’ recommendations.

I asked her:

In your last film, “By the Sea,” you acted in it, wrote the dialogue, and were also the director of the film. Of course, as the director of the film, you had to direct your husband, who is participating in this film with you. You had to direct him and guide him on how you wanted him to appear. Of course, you wanted your husband to appear in the best possible role. So, how did you give him instructions or “orders”?

She said:

- He is of course my husband and I know exactly what his nature is more than anyone else, so I had to direct him to appear as the best actor, and I think I succeeded in this regard. We agreed before filming on what my limits were as the director of the film and what his limits were as an actor, and thank God it all went well. I am completely satisfied with the result of working with my husband.

• The film takes place in the South of France but was shot on the island of Malta - what made you decide to film in Malta instead of the film's location, which is set in the South of France?

She said:

There are many reasons, including the cost of the film. They welcomed us in Malta, life was much cheaper there, people were happy with us and we were happy with them. Then the weather in Malta is relatively unchangeable compared to the weather in the south of France, as the sun was there all the way around, which helped with filming there.

I told her:

• In the movie, Brad Pitt speaks French. How was that?

She said, laughing:

- He had to study some French sentences and try to speak them with a French accent and we all laughed when we heard him try to do this but he succeeded in the end as you can see in the movie.

• There was a summit held in France by the countries of the world to combat air pollution and global warming. What is your opinion on that and what have you done about this issue?

She said:

- There are always meetings here and there to solve this problem or that issue, but what is the value of these meetings if there is no agreement to implement and solve them practically and not just with words and decisions that are not implemented? For example, I am now going to Cambodia to make a film there about genocide, and I hope that it will direct people to the fact that we are all human beings living on the same planet.

Angelina also talked about the situation in Syria and said: They have to solve this human tragedy, and they also have to solve the problem of the Palestinians and Israel, as well as the situation in Sudan (she mentioned all of this, but she did not say what the solution is, except that they must agree to settle all of these problems).

I asked her about her married life and said to her:

• Life has its ups and downs. Every married life has its good and bad times. What is your opinion on that?

She said:

- My married life is like everyone else’s life now. We disagree on many things, but in the end we agree and life goes on. We must realize that everyone has their faults and we must avoid these obstacles. Now we have children and we are trying to make them feel safe in their home, and this is the most important thing in my relationship with my husband. We tell our children: Life has disagreements between married couples, but this does not mean that we will get divorced, but we will always be together. This is what my husband and I agreed upon.
