George Clooney to Al-Mawed: “I might visit Lebanon in the summer, but I wouldn’t dare play pranks on my wife Amal”
Recently, I met the international star George Clooney twice, the first time when he was honored with the Cecil B. Demille Award and then during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony held annually at the luxurious Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The first ceremony was held in a luxurious restaurant in the Hollywood suburb, attended by a large number of movie stars, some of whom gave a short speech. However, the ceremony was normal and informal in terms of arrangements, and was filled with joy and happiness on the occasion of George Clooney receiving the award.
I met George Clooney during the first ceremony to honor him. He was wearing normal clothes, he is very nice in his conversation with others, very humble and loves to joke and laugh. I told him that I am writing to a Lebanese magazine and of course I know that his wife is from Lebanon. I asked him if they intend to visit Lebanon. He said that he has never visited Lebanon, but that he and his wife would like to go to Lebanon and that might be early next summer. I told him that he is known for playing pranks on his friends and relatives, and that his pranks are usually nice and funny. I asked him if he plays pranks on his wife and what is the prank? He immediately said: “No, no, I don’t dare to do that.” I said to him: “Why?” He said: "I am afraid of the reaction", and of course I congratulated him on winning the Cecil B. Demille Award which would be given to him a week later at the Golden Globe ceremony. Then I asked him if his wife would be at this big ceremony since she was not present at the first ceremony. He said yes she will attend the ceremony with me. I told him: I hope to meet her since there will be a very large number in the big hotel and security requirements are tight. He said we would be happy to meet this large audience if possible.
I did not ask him about his future cinematic activity and which film he would act in, as the occasion was not available for that, and I said goodbye to him, saying, “I will meet you at the Golden Globe ceremony if we can.”
Then there was the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which is called here the biggest party of the year, “The Biggest Party of the Year,” where the streets leading to the huge Beverly Hilton Hotel, which is located at the intersection of two main streets, were closed. This year, security requirements were greater than in previous years, perhaps because of what happened in Paris a few days before, but everything went on without anything spoiling the party, as this large hall contained the largest group of movie men in Hollywood and perhaps in the world as well, as it was attended by many actors and directors from all over the world.
