International star Al Pacino speaks to Al-Mawed: I advise young people to work continuously and love their work to succeed in what they do

* I am very careful to protect my children.

* My mother used to take me to the cinema when I was a child.

* Every day that passes by has its ups and downs

He is the oldest and most famous actor in Hollywood and still works regularly whenever he gets the chance. His love for acting has been with him since his childhood. For him, acting is a medicine that he always needs. I met him recently after he finished acting in his latest film and of course the talk came up about the film, his aspirations for the future in acting and his life in general. (He came dressed in heavy clothes and had a mustache and a small beard, while his hair was disheveled as usual.) He is "Al Pacino", but his sense of humor and seriousness did not leave him during our conversation.

I asked him about his acting in his latest film, in which he played the role of a sports coach. The film tells the story of real people and events that actually happened, and a sports coach overlooked what happened with prominent players, such as homosexuality and other things. He played the role of the coach, and the conversation touched on accusations of sexual harassment against well-known people in the artistic and political circles.

I asked him about the difficulty of playing such a role and whether the coach really knew about the homosexuality of some of the players. He said that he did not know exactly if this coach knew what was happening, but at least he suspected it.

I told him that sports between universities and different clubs generate a lot of money for universities and clubs and are a major economic resource, at least in America. The question is, did the coach overlook the homosexuality of some prominent players because he was afraid of losing this financial income for the university or club? He said that he did not know what happened and he does not like to make statements about things that he does not know about completely. I told him that the current political arena in America is talking about sexual scandals, and he said that trying to escape from scandals is not something new, but has always existed, but now more so, because the accused are powerful men politically, financially and socially. This is on the one hand, but on the other hand, we are now in the era of computers and social networking sites, and people are quick to convict people without real reason or complete proof, especially since most of these accused denied what happened.

I asked him how he protects his children (he has three) from bad people. He said: “This is the concern and worry of every father and mother. We were very careful about our children and this is all we could do. Thank God everything went well.”

He asked him if he remembers the first time he went to the cinema and what effect it had on him. He said that he remembers exactly the first time he went to the cinema. His mother took him with her to the cinema when he was about four years old. He watched a film by the actor Ray Milland and went home. He started imitating the actor, his movements and his words. He said that they did not have a television at the time, but his mother used to take him with her to the cinema whenever she went. For him, that was the best reward for him as a child.

I told him that many actors forget some parts of their speech and roles. Has this happened to him? He said that his memory is very good and he also loves acting on stage. On stage, there is what they call a “Prompter” who is in front of the stage in a place below the stage and he prompts the actor with his dialogue in case the actor stumbles and forgets. The “Prompter” prompts him in a low voice, but this is not possible in films and cinema.

I told him that in every person’s life there is sweet and bitter, so could he tell us what he went through in his life? He said: “Every day that passes by has sweet and bitter, and believe me, you don’t want to know what is sweet and bitter in my life!!”

Al Pacino is known to have grown up in a very poor neighborhood in New York where one did not feel safe. After his parents divorced, he went to California when Al Pacino was only two years old with his mother and grandmother. That is, his life as a child was difficult, but he faced life and succeeded, of course, until he reached the top of acting and won several awards from the Oscar to the Golden Globe and others.

Here I asked him about his artistic career and what advice he could give to young people who want to work in acting. He said, “Constant and hard work, love of work, and luck. If you don’t love your work, it will be difficult to reach any practical level in the field of acting.”
