Will the new year bring us the desired peace?
The last page of the year 2014 has turned, which witnessed many violent events, wars and destruction, and the departure of many Arab stars and intellectuals. The year 2015 has come, and we ask God to bring us the peace that we missed last year, and to erase from our memory and not repeat all the terrifying scenes of the bloody events that the Arab region witnessed.
Facebook wanted to offer a greeting to subscribers at the end of the year by presenting a summary of the past year based on the information that people published on their Facebook, but this step was very bad, especially for those whose year was full of painful events, as this “greeting” reminded them of all the painful events they went through. It happened that a person named Eric Meyer lost his six-year-old daughter as a result of an illness that she had suffered from for years, so the Facebook program chose her picture to put on the cover of his page. Eric expressed his sadness at what Facebook had done, and many people showed solidarity. This story sparked many comments on social media networks to the point that Eric received an apology from one of the Facebook supervisors.
Do you see? If Lebanon had a Facebook page and its events during the past year were summarized, what would we have seen? We would have seen wars, sadness, economic, security, social and even food crises, in addition to a prolonged presidential vacuum. Perhaps the computer would have preferred to turn off rather than relive all these events. However, in Lebanon, there are not only dark clouds and painful events, but there are also many good initiatives, young talents and promising competencies that make us renew our faith in Lebanon, hoping that next year will be a year of peace, goodness and love that we have missed so much. Will we live it next year?
