Anyone walking the streets of Beirut today will be shocked by the horror of the destruction and devastation... tears for the loved ones who fell as martyrs or for those who were injured or lost... the tragedy is great and the event is grave, but Beirut will rise again to be the mother of the world and its beacon after those who destroyed it and killed its children are held accountable.
Today, after I finished removing the damage that affected my house as a result of the horrific explosion, I went to visit the office of Al-Mawed magazine in Beirut to find that the damage and destruction had affected my office and the archives. Glass, iron and stones were mixed with pictures of stars and giants in Egypt and Lebanon during the Golden age of arab entertainment. The damage was limited to material things. I remember the day the Al-Mawed printing presses were completely destroyed in 1982 due to the war. My father, Badih Serbey, stood watching the fire and said, "We will start over." Today, Beirut is wiping away its tears, burying its children, and healing its wounds in the hope of a new tomorrow in which justice is achieved to punish every criminal who persisted in assassinating it.
