Nour El-Sherif will always be the audience's favorite
With the passing of the artist Nour El-Sherif, Arab art will miss a different artist, who left an imprint in the heart and soul of the Arab audience. Nour El-Sherif has loved art since he was young, since he was introduced to the world of cinema through two cinemas that were next to his house, one showing Arabic films and the other showing foreign films.
Since his early childhood, his eyes were opened to the masterpieces of world cinema such as “Quevadis” and “The Cloak” and the masterpieces of Arabic films. He was influenced by the character of Charlie Chaplin and the character of Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, as he said in one of his interviews with “Al-Mawed”. His love for art followed him, so he joined the acting team at school until his artistic dreams were translated into reality after he joined the acting institute and then to professionalism.
Nour El-Sherif's artistic journey was not easy. Rather, he climbed the ladder of fame until he reached the top. His suffering and insistence on success shaped him into a distinctive artistic personality.
Nour El-Sherif was a cultured, informed and open-minded artist. He loved reading in all fields, which enriched his cultural stock. The first time I met Nour El-Sherif was in the living room of my father’s room at the Sheraton Cairo Hotel. That day, he amazed me when he was talking about one of his films and his artistic techniques. Then he began to explain how art affects society and vice versa, then about the political influence and its connection to history until he reached the problem of production and the problem of external distribution and its connection to the economic situation. I remember that I told my father that day that Nour El-Sherif, with his easy talk, made me feel that he had given me a lecture on art, economics, politics and sociology...
Nour El-Sherif knew the taste of stardom, but he remained a humble artist because he was a person who loved his art and worked hard for it. Stardom was not offered to him on a silver platter, so he earned it and earned people’s love until the end of his days. I remember that on my wedding day, he and Boussy went up to the wedding booth to congratulate me. Because he is a different artist, he did not just congratulate me, but he said to me and my husband, “I want to give you some advice as you are at a crossroads in your life, which will not be all happiness and joy. Rather, one day you will face difficulties, even problems and differences. I advise you not to let anyone interfere in your life in these circumstances. Rather, you alone must solve any problem and face any difficulty alone.”
I remember that I was surprised at the time that Nour El-Sherif would talk about problems and difficulties on such a day, but I later realized how honest this person is and how he wanted to give us the essence of his life experience.
With the passing of Nour El-Sherif, the Arab world loses one of its most beloved stars and the one most attached to his fans, but he will remain in our hearts as an honorable model of the Arab artist.
I offer my condolences to his family, his wife Boussy, and his two daughters, Sarah and May, and I tell them, inspired by his most famous romantic films: “My Love Forever.” Nour El-Sherif will always be the audience’s beloved.
Greetings from the “Al-Mawed” family, who had a long friendship with the late star Nour El-Sherif and his family, “Al-Mawed” dedicates its cover and pages to stand in words and pictures with the most prominent stations of his artistic and personal life and the moments of sadness that prevailed over the artistic community during the funeral and condolences.
